History of Atlanta’s Swan House
Originally built in 1928 for Edward and Emily Inman. The Inman house (or Swan House as it has become known) was designed by renowned architect Phillip T Shutze. Including a mix of styles the overall design falls into what is called the “Renaissance revival”. Drawing its inspiration from Italian and English manor homes. Which can be seen inside and outside of the house in the form of stone obelisks and fountains. As well as the house’s grand staircase. While featuring the modern conveniences that would have been the standard for the wealthy in the twentieth century. The house itself sits on a 23 acre estate right in the heart of what is now known as Buckhead.
After Emily Inman’s death, the house was purchased by the Atlanta Historical Society in 1966. After which the Swan House was turned into a museum. And after being restored to its original glory, it opened to tours in 1967. The house has famously been featured in the Hunger Games films. Drawing national attention for its timeless beauty.
